Car Battery Repairs in Bonita Springs

How do you know if your battery needs to be replaced?  Does alight turn on? Does something start beeping?  Are there a certain number of years that batteries last?  There are so many factors that go into a car battery and it is our job to help educate you to make sure you are safe out on the roads.

In Florida, batteries typically last between 3-4 years if they are located under the hood, and 4-5 years if they are located under the seat or trunk of the vehicle. When replacing a battery, the positive terminals get attached first then the negatives. Warranties for batteries range from 18-48 months for a free replacement. The quality is directly correlated to the warranty which means the lower quality battery will have a shorter warranty.

One thing you should always be on the lookout for is green corrosion.  It is there because of a crack in your battery. Hydrogen gases are leaking through and create an electrical charge mixed with the air. So if you see the green or white corrosion on your battery, don't just clean it with battery cleaner, it's time to replace your battery. The corrosion can create resistance in the wire which makes it harder for the current to flow. Don't hesitate when you see this because it could lead to alternator issues as well if your battery is not replaced.

Have you ever had to jump start a car? Make sure you do this properly because if you don't it can cost you more money and more time to replace the entire fuse and wire assembly. It is important to first connect the jumper cables to the two negatives then positive to positive. Increase the RPMs to at least 1,000 on the vehicle that is going to be sending power to the dead battery for at least 10 minutes so the dead battery can get to a full charge. This will prevent any electrical damages to either vehicle.
